Letters of Recommendation
Students who need a letter of recommendation for a college admissions or a scholarship should carefully consider who can best represent their growth as a person and speak to their ability. Many staff are honored and willing to provide a letter to a student, however, please be considerate and follow these simple guidelines.
- Ask in advance if the person is willing to provide a letter of recommendation and inform them of the details.
- Allow two weeks advanced notice, at a minimum one week.
- Be sure to include all essential details including to whom the letter is being sent, the purpose, and consider including a stamped addressed envelope.
- You are strongly encouraged to complete a RECOMMENDATION FORM by making a copy of this google form to edit. This is to aid the person writing the recommendation to remember and include important details. Some people prefer to focus on only a few aspects they feel are essential.
- No matter how you say it, short note of appreciate, a favorite soda, cup of coffee or candy bar will go a long way in showing your appreciation to the person who gave their time to write a letter for you.

Non Local Scholarships
When applications arrive in the Counseling Office, we will update the information and provide links to applications when possible on this website.
Students, if a non-local scholarship requires an official transcript, counselor paperwork/signature, a recommendation, or any other information from BHS staff, you will need to seek out this information from the staff at least a week before the deadline is due. Otherwise, no guarantee can be made that this information can be obtained by the scholarship deadline. If an Official Transcript is needed for the scholarship your counselor is happy to provide a paper copy.
MANY COLLEGES offer their own scholarship programs. Be sure to check out EACH college you are interested to learn of their scholarship options, requirements and deadlines. Some require a separate application. If you learn you are close to qualifying for a scholarship, but you don't quite have the right ACT score, it may be in your best interest to schedule another ACT test, and be sure to prep for it ahead of time.
